District at a Glance:

About District

Shi Yomi District, enveloped in breathtaking Himalayan vistas and vibrant cultural tapestry, is nestled amid pine-clad hills and tranquil river valleys of Arunachal Pradesh. Majestic snow-capped peaks loom in the distance as the meandering Siyom River and its tributaries wind through emerald meadows . In these remote valleys, dawn breaks gently with golden sunlight bathing terraced farms and mist-covered hamlets, as life stirs awake under the rising sun. Covering an area of about 2,875 sq km with a population of roughly 13,300 (2011 Census) , Shi Yomi is home to diverse indigenous communities including the Adi, Tagin and Memba, each preserving rich tribal traditions . The district’s name reflects the confluence of two local rivers – the Shi and the Yomi – which meet near its headquarters at Tato , symbolizing the life-giving waters cherished by the people. Formed through administrative reorganization, Shi Yomi emerged as a separate district on 9 December 2018, carved out of West Siang district . This new district status marked a significant milestone for local governance and development, making Shi Yomi the 23rd district of Arunachal Pradesh
